At least the Star Wars activity was for a 5k, which actually involved physical activity!
After my travels and odd sleep hours, I experienced such a strange form of jet lag. My body was confused by the time change and extremely poor sleep hours, and by all the poorly timed unhealthy fast foods. Not to mention, I was also mentally reeling from being so immersed in the Marvel universe. We basically lived at the movie theater, and it felt odd to go back to regular life with an actual sleep schedule and no next movie to get to. I also had to remember how to feed myself regular food! Anyway, getting outdoors for my first 5k of the season was a welcome change. As an added bonus, after the humid heat of Florida, the balmy cool weather of Utah was just fabulous.
For those who may be unaware, May 4th has been dubbed Star Wars Day as a clever twist on the saying, "May the force be with you" (May the Fourth… be with you). For this reason, Geeked out running club hosted a Star Wars themed race on the Saturday before. Even better, they had a packet pick-up activity the day before. Normally you show up to pick up your t-shirt and race bib, and that's about it. However, they decided to have a costume contest and a few other things the night before. That meant I got to wear my whole Jedi costume, which I wasn't going to even try to run in! They also had a random party with "blue milk," from A New Hope, poster give-away, and a nice guy doing photo-ops with digital backgrounds.
I figure that if anyone has a mohawk, it would be a Jedi! |
No, I didn't win the costume contest, but I did have fun chatting with my fellow Star Wars enthusiasts!
The next day we had the run at the Veteran's memorial park in West Jordan. It was hilarious to see everyone in their creative costumes. There were quite a few other Jedi, as well as Vader, Han Solo, Yoda, and Princess Leia. Since this technically was a run, I modified my Jedi outfit to allow for running. I also found my good friend Kami, who came as Darth Vader. I had a blast running my four laps around the park, but I could definitely tell my week off in Florida hadn't helped my run time. (Week off? Are you kidding, we did so much walking!)
My stripped down version of a Jedi, and Kami as Vader! |
All my sweet swag! |
