Comic Con 2015 - Thursday

Okay, guys!  I had such a crazy fun time at Comic Con this weekend.  It started this Thursday, and went through Saturday.  I've been wearing a FitBit around lately, and over the last three days I walked a grand total of 18 miles.  Oh yeah!  So Basically I've been spending my Sunday napping, and just recovering.  So I'll just go ahead and warn in advance that I'll be rambling lots!

Now that Salt Lake Comic Con is a thing that I do, I look forward to the next one almost as soon as the last one is over.  When they announced the guest line-up clear back in March, I totally bought a VIP pass.  It didn't hurt that buying early meant I got to take advantage of the cheapest price, but the VIP passes actually sold out.  That also meant I had nearly six months to mess around with my outfits.  First of all, I'm the type of person who likes to have some sort of project to work on when I'm not at work.  And by all means, compared to some of the costumes I saw, I didn't spend nearly the amount of time that several did.

In the weeks leading up to it, they make all their big guest announcements on who is coming.  This year the big announcement was Chris Evans was coming, and he would be bringing along four of his Captain America costars.  It was a pretty big deal that a con only in its third year in little ol' Utah could attract such big names!  I was pretty psyched since I'm such a Marvel fan myself, and I really made an effort this year to try a little bit of everything at the Con.  I'm pleased to announce that despite going by myself, I wasn't bored for a minute.  I had an absolute blast, and even though I was exhausted and footsore by the end of each day, I'd totally be up for more!

Thursday
Thursday is usually my favorite day of the con simply because it starts a little later, and because it tends to be less crowded.  The big crowds generally show up on Saturday, and by then it's absolutely insane.  It's no secret that one of my favorite parts includes the costuming aspect.  Honestly, it doesn't take much to get me to dress up for anything!  I also love getting see all the amazing outfits others craft.  Not only that, I just love all the obscure pop culture people decide to represent with their costumes.  People are extremely clever!  I even got involved in a photo scavenger hunt taking pictures of specific things, and posting them to Instagram.  Anyway, Thursday I recycled a costume from last year which I had upgraded during the interim.
About ready to head out.  Don't mind the rando items in the background!

I have equipped the Master Sword!
It's dangerous to go alone.  Take this shield.

That's right, I went as Link!  If you're unfamiliar, this is the main character from the Legend of Zelda Nintendo game series.
Really Cool Legend of Zelda Cosplay:
I upgraded from last year's outfit by crafting a leather sheath for the foam sword I purchased at FanX, building a Hylian shield, and obtaining leather bracers and belt pouch for storing my deku nuts and bombs.  Also, I was protected by the power of the golden Triforce.   Haha.  But seriously, this was an extremely popular costume.  Despite being a male character, I saw men and women in a variety of colors and interpretations as Link.  I also saw an entire myriad of secondary characters represented at the con.
Oh yeah, those are Gorans, and what I can only assume is a Gerudo thief.
Zelda and Midna.
I have to say, I was quite impressed.  Prior to this time, I'd never seen most of these characters represented.  I actually saw two variations of Midna, lots of Zeldas, and a couple Sheiks.  Anyway, let's do a quick run-down of my day.  Parking and getting in was pretty quick.  I did spend a good amount of time waiting in line to get some stuff switched around.  I then wandered around and scoped out the vendor floor.  I was pretty blown away by some of the awesome vendors, especially the Ultrasabers vendor.
Look at all the pretty colors!

Don't judge, but I really love Star Wars.  In fact, I've been looking into joining the Rebel Legion, which is a costuming club that does charity events.  I went over and chatted up the local group, and had them give me some advice on joining.  They also hosted a panel where they answered questions about building movie-accurate costumes from the films.  We're talking Wookies, Tusken raiders, and multiple Jedi.  The Rebel Legion includes only characters opposing the Empire, or the "good guys."  If the dark side is more your style, head on over to the 501st, and become a Stormtrooper.
Got to love a man in armor.  He also complimented my outfit, but lamented the fact that the water temple (the level which requires the blue tunic) is the worst!
I just found this guy wandering around.  He's dressed as a character from the new Star Wars movie that hasn't even been released yet!  He suggested we trade weaponry.
My first celebrity encounter of the Con was with Dean O'Gorman, a charming New Zealander who plays Kili in The Hobbit.  In case you were wondering, the Tolkien universe is also one that I support!  Check out my Hobbit marathon.

He was a lot of fun to meet.  He was also very friendly.  He complimented my pointed Hylian ears - a prop I'm certain he became familiar with in his role as Kili.  Later that weekend I went to Dean's panel, which is basically where the celebrity sits in the front of a large auditorium/conference room, and answers questions put to them by the audience.  Some of the questions put to him were a bit ridiculous, but it was a lot of fun to see him answer questions as a real person.  He told some funny stories about filming, and I thought it was funny that because of Peter Jackson's directing style, Dean had trouble remembering what scenes were in the original cut, the extended cut, the special features, or done by a stunt double.  Also, I now want to go through the films and look at all the dwarves in the background, and see if I can catch any shenanigans.  He reported that a favorite prank of theirs was to hide props from their fellow actors, and see how they reacted, and some of that might have made it onto the movie.  Haha.

Sometime during that afternoon I broke down and purchased an Ultrasaber!  I'd been scoping them out all day, and it was a lot of fun to pick out my hilt and blade color.  Check it out!

I put in my order, then came back later that evening to pick up my completed lightsaber.  I then headed off to catch a panel featuring the Weasley twins from Harry Potter.  This was a lot of fun to sit and listen to them play off each other because James and Oliver are twin brothers in real life.  It was entertaining because Oliver (George) was the more dominant speaker, and James seemed more comfortable allowing his brother to answer most of the questions.  They also did a charming bit where they answered questions in unison.  Seriously, the twins saying things in unison were some of my favorite lines from the movies.

My first surprise was that they actually weren't gingers!  They are brunettes, and required regular color jobs to keep up the Weasley look during filming.  One funny story they told involved an intern accidentally bleaching Oliver's eyebrows white, and having to get them drawn on for the next couple weeks till they grew back!  Also, there is this internet rumor circulating that James and Oliver would switch roles on set.  They did admit to switching one time during rehearsal, but they said they never did that for actual filming.  Also, there was a running joke through the panel about Fred dying.  It was a bit sad, but at least they could joke about it!  I think my favorite story they told was their most awkward fan encounter.  They said they were somewhere in France, and were recognized on the street by some fans who started to run towards them.  Anyway, they decided they ought to run away, and the fans gave chase.  Oliver said after running so long they suddenly had the thought, "why are we running?" so they stopped.  The fans stopped, then got a little nervous, then they started to run away!  Haha.
They are really tall!
After seeing them in panel I actually got a photo with them both.  I don't really remember saying much to them, but they were friendly enough.  Honestly, it has got to be so weird as a celebrity to have all these strangers wanting a picture with them...  Whatever, we love it!
Another man in some awesome armor!  Seriously, Iron Man is my favorite Avenger.
I was pretty much done for the day after seeing the Weasleys.  I took a few more pictures with awesome cosplayers, and attempted to slay a Dalek!  I then excitedly picked up my new Jedi weapon!
Batman is my favorite DC character.  Check out my saber!  Imagine how awesome Link would have been with a Lightsaber... and could jump.
I was walking along, and I randomly ran into a guy I knew from Omaha whom I probably haven't seen (or really talked to) in at least three years.  How fun!  All-in-all, a very successful first day of ComicCon!

Dirty Dash 2015

After I completed the Star Wars run, my next 5k was the Dirty Dash on June 6th.  This was a mud run up at Soldier Hollow near Midway, and it was a fabulous little day trip.  I actually signed up for this run several months in advance with a friend, but by then she actually got engaged, and her wedding was the Friday before the run.  I suppose that's a good enough excuse to get you out of a 5k!  Anyway, I made this little day trip on my own, but it was actually a total blast.
Pre-mud activities.
I started up Parley's Canyon, and it was a lovely overcast, rainy day.  My day was only slightly marred by getting a massive rock chip in my windshield.  Fantastic!

The Dirty Dash apparently is a pretty big deal.  I couldn't believe the turn-out, the fun race route, and the excellent swag - especially my sweet fake tattoo!  We started out with some fun at the start line, and a crazy run up a muddy hill.  I immediately got splattered!  Great start to getting muddy.  The first major obstacle we encountered was a series of trenches filled with waist-high mud water, and 6 foot high mud walls you climbed up and over.  You then got to slide back into cold mud water.  So fun!  I had my GoPro strapped to my forehead for this whole obstacle, but the lens got covered by mud about halfway through, so the vid kinda sucks.
I'm not scared to get dirty!
Giant slide down the hill near the end of the run.
Just enjoying the mud pits... and the mud in my teeth!
Bangarang!
There were tons of other fun obstacles, including another deep, water-filled trench with horizontal poles you climbed over.  There was a nice big slide near the end, and several other mud pits.  Needless to say, I was completely covered with mud except the very top of my head.  At the end had some really cold showers we could rinse off with, but my clothes and hair were still completely full of mud.  Luckily this wasn't my first dirty run, and I came prepared with garbage bags and a fresh shirt to protect my seats.

On the drive home I stopped off in Heber to get some gas and a nice cold beverage, and believe me I was a nice muddy mess!  It was kinda fun going into the gas station looking like that.  I also enjoyed the beautiful canyon on the drive home that was extra green thanks to the unusual amount of rain we'd been getting the weeks prior.  Luckily no more rocks jumped up off the road to smack my windshield.
I want you to do a mud run with me!
This was the most fun I'd had on a 5k so far, and I totally want to do another one.

Coca Cola Lineup

Diet Coke is the secret ingredient to my life….
Except it's really not a secret.  (Sorry, not sorry!)  Anyway, I decided to go ahead and compare the different varieties of my favorite beverage, especially since I've noticed the whole "share a Coke with.." campaign is making a comeback for the summer!  Anyway, I decided this blog could be a sounding board for my random observations on life, and if anyone has some expertise on which Diet Coke is best, I'm probably that person!  I have some pretty random opinions on this subject, but I'm not an isolated subject.  Ask anyone who's a serious Diet Coke drinker, and they too will have some pretty strong opinions on which way is the best.  I'm pretty sure we can rival the precocious coffee drinkers at Starbucks.  So here it is, my definitive ranking of which way is best!

7. Diet Pepsi
I had to include this because it serves as a replacement for my favorite beverage, but not really!  Sometimes you just have to go to places that serve Pepsi products.

6. Bottles
Generally this is what you will encounter any time you buy from a machine or food vendor if they don't have fountain drinks.  Gone are the days of cans from soda machines!  Bottles are great in a pinch, or on the go.  They really hit the spot after a long day walking around Disneyland, or Comic Con.  Pretty much the only time I go for these is when I'm traveling, and have no access to other forms of my favorite beverage.
This is my least favorite type, right next to flat, watery, or hot, and let me tell you why.  After you drink about half the bottle, pretty much all the carbonation is gone.  Not to mention, due to the very nature of the places I normally purchase them, these are usually ridiculously overpriced. It's like three bucks from a vending machine.

Now that these are back, if I find a ridiculous name, I will be buying.  Because they're funny!
5. 12 oz cans
This is my go-to.  At any point in time you can count on me having a good supply of these in my fridge, and on a shelf somewhere in my house!  This comes from the fact that I live close to Costco, and it's pretty easy/cheap to stock up on their 36-pack.  Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) this habit has spilled over into my work environment.  In my defense, I'm not the only person at my office who likes this stuff!  Anyway, these taste different than the plastic bottle kind.  That probably means something in the metal can is leaching into it, and I'm now conditioned to love that flavor!  Haha.  (If you can't tell, I'm referencing all the nay-sayers who keep saying this stuff gives you cancer.  Who knows, it probably does… sad.)
Anyway, I really only like the regular kind.  Don't go messing up my flavor with additives like lemon or lime!  Basically it tastes like a little bit of lysol in my Coke.  No thanks.  Vanilla and cherry, however, are both acceptable additives in the cans.

4. Freestyle Machine
You know, these guys.

They are fancy, allow for total user control, and contain literally almost any beverage combination you can think of (even some you really don't want).  My major beef with them is that everything comes out the same spout.  That means that everything kinda gets mixed together, meaning you might get a hint of the last guy's orange raspberry Hawaiian punch mixed in with your Dr. Pepper, or whatever.  That's just gross.  Same goes for fountain dispensers that combine four sodas into one spout. Those are a little less offensive to me because usually they combine similar things into one, like all Coke products, or all Mountain Dews.

3. Movie Theaters
Arguably one of the most expensive places to buy, well, anything.  However, getting a fountain drink goes hand-in-hand with my movie-going experience, and really is more essential to me than movie theater popcorn.  Thanks to my cinaphile-ness, I have a refill cup for Megaplex, so drinks are only a dollar.  Sweet!
Don't worry, I have a matching Avenger's cup!
2. Fountain Drinks
Without much argument, this is the best form!  This includes restaurants, as well as gas stations.  I will go one step further and say that the plastic refill cups are great, but for some reason the foam cups you get from Sonic (and now Maverick) just taste better!

1. Dirty Fountain Drinks
This is the holy grail of diet coke!  Basically you take the awesomeness of a fountain drink, and you add different things to them.  My favorite combination is coconut and lime, but sometimes this is a little bit difficult to find at gas stations.  I do, however, have my own set of flavor shots at home to make up for the deficiency.  Thanks to Utah's general addiction to the beverage, a whole line of convenience stores have sprung up to cater to our needs which provide any number of flavor shots to a variety of drinks.  Because of its proximity to my new office, Swig has become my go-to stop for coconut lime drinks.
Rainy Friday afternoon?  Better get a Big Al and a sugar cookie!
In addition to all of this, I also recently discovered that Diet Coke is the best beverage for generating soda and mento explosions!  Thanks to Myth Busters, I now really want to test this out in my yard.

Anyway, thanks for allowing me to impart my wisdom on you poor unsuspecting readers!

May the 4th - be with you!

The geek is strong with this one!  Imagine going from being completely immersed in Harry Potter's world, to DisneyWorld, then to the Marvel universe for a solid day, then jump into Star Wars.  Yes, yes, I am know as an uber fan… or something less healthy.  Haha.

At least the Star Wars activity was for a 5k, which actually involved physical activity!

After my travels and odd sleep hours, I experienced such a strange form of jet lag.  My body was confused by the time change and extremely poor sleep hours, and by all the poorly timed unhealthy fast foods.  Not to mention, I was also mentally reeling from being so immersed in the Marvel universe.  We basically lived at the movie theater, and it felt odd to go back to regular life with an actual sleep schedule and no next movie to get to.  I also had to remember how to feed myself regular food!  Anyway, getting outdoors for my first 5k of the season was a welcome change.  As an added bonus, after the humid heat of Florida, the balmy cool weather of Utah was just fabulous.

For those who may be unaware, May 4th has been dubbed Star Wars Day as a clever twist on the saying, "May the force be with you" (May the Fourth… be with you).  For this reason, Geeked out running club hosted a Star Wars themed race on the Saturday before.  Even better, they had a packet pick-up activity the day before.  Normally you show up to pick up your t-shirt and race bib, and that's about it.  However, they decided to have a costume contest and a few other things the night before.  That meant I got to wear my whole Jedi costume, which I wasn't going to even try to run in!  They also had a random party with "blue milk," from A New Hope, poster give-away, and a nice guy doing photo-ops with digital backgrounds.
I figure that if anyone has a mohawk, it would be a Jedi!

No, I didn't win the costume contest, but I did have fun chatting with my fellow Star Wars enthusiasts!

The next day we had the run at the Veteran's memorial park in West Jordan.  It was hilarious to see everyone in their creative costumes.  There were quite a few other Jedi, as well as Vader, Han Solo, Yoda, and Princess Leia.  Since this technically was a run, I modified my Jedi outfit to allow for running.  I also found my good friend Kami, who came as Darth Vader.  I had a blast running my four laps around the park, but I could definitely tell my week off in Florida hadn't helped my run time.  (Week off?  Are you kidding, we did so much walking!)
My stripped down version of a Jedi, and Kami as Vader!
All my sweet swag!
There you have it, the nerd circle is complete!  Honestly, I'm really just looking for excuses to dress up, especially in Star Wars attire.  Maybe I need to join the 501st, or Rebel Legion.  These are both Star Wars costuming clubs that participate in different charity events - in full costume!

Avengers Assemble

A while back someone asked me if I was excited about the new Avenger's movie.  I smiled, and told them "yes, definitely."  That was a bit of an understatement.  Two months ago while looking ahead at purchasing tickets, I discovered Megaplex was hosting a marathon in anticipation of the Marvel blockbuster.  I'm no stranger to theater-hosted marathons, my first introduction to the phenomenon being the Hobbit marathon I participated in last December.  This, however, was on a completely different scale when one considers just how many movies contributed to the formation of Avengers!  The first, possibly more sane option involved the first Avengers, followed by Age of Ultron.  The marathon I'm speaking about, though, included all eleven contributing movies.  Believe it or not, this option was so popular that the first theater sold out two months in advance, and they opened up a second theater, which also sold out.  By the time I decided to go for it, there really was only one spot where I could get two tickets together.  (Luckily still pretty good seats.)  Anyway, here is a visual representation of my Marvel day.
First thing when we walked in, they gave us these helpful lanyards.  This served as a re-entrance ticket so we could leave the theater and return during our marathon day.  It also was a handy itinerary to keep all the films, and their order straight throughout the night.  Believe me, it was a long day/night, and I wasn't doing so well on the thinking straight part about halfway through it!

Coming off this kind of marathon you might be inclined to think that I would be completely burned out on all the Marvel movies.  While you are generally correct in this thinking, I find myself wanting to not only see Age of Ultron again, but wanting to go back and watch the other movies again.  This mainly stems from the fact that I did doze off during more than one movie!  I would, however, like to point out that I was present for every movie.  Go me!

I mentioned I bought tickets nearly two months ago.  That means I had time to find some sweet SWAG for my favorite Avenger.  In case you were wondering, yes, those are arch reactor earrings.  Originally I was trying to get my awesome brother to come, but the poor guy was right in the middle of finals.  I do, however, have a couple of awesome friends who wanted to get involved in this with me.  Also, like I've mentioned before about Comic Con, when you are this dedicated to something, all the other people surrounding you are automatically your friends!
Buckle up for the next 26.5 hours!  First batch of popcorn with my re-fillable collectible tin.
The day started out with me flying back to Utah from Florida.  That in itself was a long, sleepless night, what with maybe 1 hour sleep at the hotel in Florida, 2 hours tops on the plane, then another 3 in my bed when I finally made it home.  However, I started out strong by 6:30pm with the Avengers marathon re-fillable popcorn and drink deal.  Energy was high, and the theater was definitely decked out with balloons, props, and give-aways.  All the movie-goers were in their favorite Marvel gear, and loads of people were well equipped with pillows, blankets, and food.  I myself had opted to show up in pajama pants since this was basically an awesome version of a giant sleep-over.  (All the elements were there, junk food, awesome movies, bed-heads, that one random guy who fell asleep and started snoring…)
My awesome row-buddy Kyle and I trying desperately to stay awake!
An unexpected friend from the ward, Tyler.  He kept me awake and on my toes.  He, unfortunately, was several rows behind us.
There is nothing quite like enjoying a series like this with a whole collection of die-hard fans.  And believe me, in order to sign up for something like this you're either a die-hard, a massive movie fan, or you're crazy!  We all cheered, and gasped, and got excited about odd details including all the after-credit snippets tying the films together.  Also, by the way, apparently I never actually watched most of these post-credit bits (or I had blocked them from my memory).  It was super exciting to see them in a crowd full of people who understood from a comic book perspective the implications of characters like Thanos, etc.  (I don't read comics.)

First up was Iron Man, Hulk (the Edward Norton version), and Iron Man 2.  All excellent, especially since it's no secret that Tony Stark aka Iron Man is my favorite.  Also, contrary to popular opinion, I actually quite liked this version of the Hulk.  By then it was after midnight, all the surrounding good food places were closed, and I was getting a little worn/hungry.  As an unexpected bonus, we had a family with two exceptionally well-behaved kids in front of us who decided to cut out and head home for some much needed sleep.  That meant our row got to stretch out and use their seats as foot-rests!  Excellent.  By the way, we were in a side row of four next to the wall, and our awesome row stuck it out the entire night!

By the time Thor started it was 1:30 am, and I noticed a trend of people starting to drop out.  The row behind us was empty besides one girl using all four seats to sleep.  A good amount of the theater started to clear out, and apparently people were lining the hallways outside taking a snooze.  Thor happens to be my second favorite Avenger, and I really enjoy those movies so I made it strong, but by the time Captain America started at approximately 3:40 am I was done.  I made it through the part where he actually becomes the Cap, then I basically fell asleep propped up on the wall next to me until Cap crashed the ship into the ice.
"It's nice to actually meet you.  I watched you while you were sleeping.  Er, was present while you were unconscious…"
As a matter of strategy, and just plain survival, many people were choosing their "least favorite film" to skip, and using the time to head home for a nap, shower, food, etc.  I had intended to do the same, but upon examination I really didn't have a single one I could bring myself to intentionally skip.  Besides, Captain America would have been the one I chose, and by the time I got a rough two hours shut-eye in-theater, I figured I'd made it that far and might as well stick it out!

The theater was well aware that two theaters-full of fans were likely to get hungry in the middle of the night with no nearby food venues open so late/early.  Therefore, they were kind enough to provide us with a breakfast buffet at 5 am, and 7:45 am between movies.  We were treated to french toast, eggs, bacon, cereal, and tots!  I hadn't planned on eating, but by 5am I was freakin' starving, and tired of subsisting on popcorn!  "This mortal form has grown weak.  I require sustenance!"
After the first Avengers movie we were a collection of over-excited fans.  Also, it dawned on me that it was now light outside, and we were only half-way through our marathon!  Seriously, the last time I had watched movies straight through the night to see the sun come up was college after finals week, and it was completely unintentional.  Also, in college we had then proceeded to fall asleep around 6am and nearly miss our 1:00 pm church.  Anyway, for some reason keeping up this long in a movie theater felt like a pretty monumental accomplishment!

Next up in the marathon was Iron Man 3, a movie which many apparently considered their "least favorite."  Kyle cut out to get some sleep in his car, and I remained behind with two whole chairs to spread out on.  Besides the no-sleep thing (which I considered a minor inconvenience), the really difficult thing about this event was sitting in one place for that long.  For anyone who has ever flown on a plane, you will understand what I'm talking about!  Also, by that time in the morning our family row-buddies in front of us had made a return, meaning we lost our foot-rests.  Around this time of the day I really began to appreciate the wall next to me as a means of differing my sitting position, and felt pity for anyone without a wall!  Also, if I ever do something like this again, I'm coming better equipped with pillow/blanket, and perhaps some more substantial treats than a protein bar and popcorn.

By the time IM3 finished at 11:00am, it was late enough in the morning that restaurants were starting to open, and I left the theater for the first time since entering it seven movies and 16.5 hours prior.  (Oh my gosh, I just typed that out, and my head exploded a little bit.  I basically lived at that theater.)  I headed to Jimmy Johns, and I've never been so happy to see a sandwich in my life!  Seriously, my digestive system was very angry at me for all the junk food I'd been giving it.  Kyle returned for Thor 2, and the party resumed while I enjoyed my delicious sandwich.  As I mentioned, I love Thor, but I joked that I saw the whole thing except my favorite part, which I happened to doze off for.

Lame.  I guess I'll just have to watch it again!  This event really made obvious which Avenger was my least favorite, since I managed to fall asleep again during Captain America 2.  Haha.  This was more intentional, since I was worried I'd doze off during Age of Ultron, and I only missed maybe an hour of CA2.  I also decided to take off after the Cap, and get an early dinner since the next film was the last before the new one.  This was a welcome break from the theater since I went to Zupas, and actually stayed long enough to finish my food.

As a random side note, the marathon included Guardians of the Galaxy.  Apparently that movie is part of the same Marvel universe, but only in the fact that they talk about infinity stones (the orb they are stealing from each other the whole time), and Thanos is the behind the scenes villain in both places.  As a side note, I freakin' love this movie!  I saw it three times in the theater, and didn't doze off once during this fourth viewing.  However, it felt strange to leave all our Avenger heroes for a film, and wouldn't have minded them cutting this one out.  After this movie, we were all in excited anticipation of the brand new Avengers movie coming up next.  Upon exiting the theater we were bombarded with a herd of new fans who had either shown up for the two part Avenger "marathon," or were just showing up for Age of Ultron.  What a bunch of light-weights.  We scoff at you and your one movie.  Haha.
I love how Tony always gives a peace sign for photos.  When you watch all the movies back-to-back you notice these things!  Also, I'm pretty sure this guy made his Iron Man, just like the real one!
Just kidding, throw it up there.
The break between movies was nearly 30 minutes, and we all seemed restless for the new one to start.  We refilled our freely-refillable beverages and popcorn tins, and checked out the awesome cosplayers and give-aways.  So exciting!  Also, Ultron was in 3D, and we kept setting off the alarm by getting our 3D glasses too soon, then going in and out of the theater.

By the time it finally started we were cheering, mostly because it was the new one, but a little bit because we had actually survived a solid 24 hours of movies up to that point.  Imagine our dismay when the screen background was green, and the Marvel logo was pink?  As good-natured fans we joked and booed, and the problem was quickly resolved.  As an added bonus, we were also given a free movie ticket on the way out.  Megaplex, you guys are amazing!

The opening scene was slightly ruined for me with the stupid 3D glasses, but it was so fun having all the background movies right there.  It was so cool to see all of the Avengers assembled in the opening scene.  I admit the 3D took some getting used to, especially with my poor eyes all strained from the previous 24 hours.  It got much better as it went on, but I highly recommend not doing 3D if it's an option.  Anyway, I loved the film!  I loved the new characters, the action sequences, and I especially loved experiencing it with a theater-full of people I now consider friends!  Anyways, after all that I totally want to go see it again.  Anyone up for that?

As an added bonus, we were given a Certificate of Heroic Completion, and a medal!  Hooray.  Grand total: 26.5 hours, 11 movies, and 3 hours of sleep.

Update:  I liked it so much that I went back and saw it the next Monday in the DBox.  Awesome!!  Seriously, this was the perfect movie for DBox.  If you're not sure what that is, they have the chairs programmed to move along with the movie, just like a ride at Disneyland, but for the entire movie.  I've now seen it three times, and I'd probably go again, but only because I still have that free movie pass!
