For this time of year, it's been fun to look back onto the past year. It seems like most everyone else is doing the same. Because I've basically become a gym rat this year, it's been really entertaining to watch the kind of people that frequent that establishment.
With the whole New Year resolution crap, I've been waiting for the resolutionars to invade the gym. It didn't really happen until around the 6th. Also, Gold's Gym got bought out by VASA like a month ago and they've been making all these weird changes. Thanks to January, the gym is experiencing a higher than normal patronage, with the parking lot turned into something reminiscent to game-day parking. You literally have to follow people to their car to get a spot sometimes. Not to mention that VASA decided that now was the best time to remodel. They've been tearing up flooring, moving all the machines to different areas, packing things into smaller areas, and they closed the women's area. On the plus side, the new wood floor is much nicer than the previous flooring, and they gave us a bunch of new treadmills that don't constantly have errors!
Anyway, the gym is entertaining, and I applaud all those people trying to get back into shape. After all, last year I essentially was that person, but at the same time I choose to opt out of the "resolution" crowd. I'm just proud that I stuck it out way past the two-month norm. Here's to hoping others have the same success, but at the same time hoping the gym clears out by February! Haha.
- Bag guys. Because sometimes you just have to bring a whole duffel bag to every machine you use. Maybe you have a bunch of sups (supplements), or an extra set of sweatpants for those between rep emergencies. Seriously.
- The random chick who uses her iPad with headphones while she was lurking in the free weight section. Seriously, she had it tucked into her spandex pants!
- The guys with a big gallon jug of water. While I admit I'm a water bottle carrier, I just can't see drinking an entire gallon worth of water in one workout.
- Those two awesome dudes doing synchronized lunges. It was actually pretty great!
- Ladies with pristine makeup and lovely long hair. Not to judge, but they either have magical elf properties of perfect hair, or aren't actually doing anything at the gym. Just, you know, walking around and texting.
- The ladies in the locker room using blow-dryers, curlers, and makeup. Hmm. Maybe they're going back to work?
- Those guys who clearly need a legs day. Really, it's a daily occurrence to see them.
