Florida Escape

I've decided there really isn't anything like spending a week sleeping in all kinds of awkward places ranging from tiny airplane seats, a desk, a bus, hotel bed, and movie theater that makes you appreciate your own fabulous bed so much!  Also, being dependent on planes, trains, shuttle buses, and very expensive taxis really make you miss your car.  Yep, I love my car!

I had quite the adventure from April 23 to the 29th.  I took a fun little trip out to Orlando, Florida with a good friend of mine, Rachel.  She is an advisor for DECA, a marketing competition organization for high school students.  A good number of her students qualified for the national competition, which was hosted in Orlando, and because she was going out as an advisor, she invited me to come along!  This is a place I've been wanting to visit for quite a while, and I jumped at an opportunity to go with my best friend!  Also, because the DECA group was flying out over a hundred kids from Utah alone, they organized everything for us, including flights, transportation, hotels, and slightly discounted park tickets.
See, it's even on my Pinterest bucket list!
Our adventure began on Thursday night.  I worked that day in order to allow for taking so much time off work, but it was putting the pressure on me to get home in time to finish packing.  I used to be quite the experienced traveler while living in Omaha and Maui, and it seemed like I was constantly packing up and flying places.  Oddly enough, when I started loading up my suitcase a few days prior, I realized I hadn't been on a plane in over a year, and I had completely forgotten how to pack!

Anyway, we started our adventure that evening by meeting up at the Salt Lake airport with eight of Rachel's students.  It was a little strange to be acting as the advisor instead of the student for a change!  The teenagers we took were actually quite mature, and required very little supervision.  Since we were taking a red eye flight out to Florida leaving around 11:30, I was counting on the flight to catch some very much needed sleep.  Especially since when we landed our hotel rooms wouldn't be ready till later in the afternoon, and we were planning on spending the entire day at Universal Studios.  Rach and I popped some sleep meds prior to lift-off, but I was a little surprised to find out the flight was really only about 4 1/2 hours long.  Seriously, I was used to at least six hours flying out to Maui, and neither amount was an adequate amount of sleep!  Basically when we landed in Orlando at around 5 am I was pretty delirious.  I managed to get my checked luggage, and shepherd the teens to our hotel shuttle.  However, I know I was saying some really strange stuff in my medicated sleep daze!  Also, I was pretty much saying most of it to thin air with no one really nearby to hear me….

Once we made it to our hotel in the Disneyworld resort we did get a single room to stash our luggage.  It was a little awkward, I'm sure, for Rach to share a bathroom with her students, but we did manage to at least change and freshen up a bit.  After a delicious breakfast buffet in the hotel lobby I was feeling much more alert, and was getting pretty excited to head out to Universal Studios and Harry Potter land!
